Tamworth Borough Council is offering grants of up to £1,000 to help eligible businesses in Tamworth grow and develop.
The Business Growth Action Grant is available to businesses that complete Staffordshire County Council’s Growth Ladder or Build and Scale programme.
The grant can help you pay for new equipment, software, technology and other capital investments that will help your business:
- Grow
- Improve productivity
- Increase capacity
- Become more resilient
- Put the recommendations from your business support programme into action.
Who can apply?
You can apply if your business:
- Is based in Tamworth and has registered premises within the Tamworth Borough boundary
- Is a small or medium-sized business (SME) or you are self-employed
- Has been trading for between 2 and 5 years
- Has a Companies House number or Unique Tax Reference (UTR)
- Is ready to grow, improve its performance or scale up
- Has successfully completed either the Growth Ladder or Build and Scale programme delivered by Staffordshire County Council
- Can show how the proposed investment will help you put the recommendations from the programme into practice
- Can complete the approved investment and submit your grant claim by 11:59pm on 28 February 2027
- Has not exceeded the £315,000 Subsidy Control allowance.
What can the grant pay for?
The grant is for new capital investment that provides a lasting benefit to your business.
Examples of eligible costs include:
- New machinery, equipment or specialist tools
- Specialist software or licences that support productivity or business growth
- Digital systems or technology that improve efficiency, customer management, stock management or production
- Specialist equipment needed to develop new products, services or processes
- Equipment for research, testing, prototyping or product development
- Low-carbon equipment or technology that reduces energy use, waste or emissions.
How much funding can I get?
You can apply for up to £1,000.
The grant is paid by reimbursement. This means you must:
- Get approval for your proposed investment.
- Buy and pay for the approved item or investment.
- Submit evidence showing what you bought and how much you paid.
- Receive the grant payment once your claim has been checked and approved.
Your project can cost more than £1,000. The grant can contribute up to £1,000 towards a larger purchase, as long as you have paid the full cost before submitting your claim.
How to apply
Step 1 – Complete Growth Ladder or Build and Scale
If you have not already done so, you should apply for either the Growth Ladder or Build and Scale programme through Staffordshire County Council.
Places on these programmes are limited. We recommend applying as soon as possible if you want to be eligible for the grant.

Step 2 – Request a grant application form
Once you are taking part in, or have completed, the Growth Ladder or Build and Scale programme, you can request a Business Growth Action Grant application form from the Tamworth Borough Council Economic Development Team. Email: business@tamworth.gov.uk
Step 3 – Submit your application
Complete the application form and email it to: business@tamworth.gov.uk
Your application must be complete and include all the information requested.
Application deadline
Applications must be submitted by: 2pm on 30 November 2026
Late applications will not be accepted.
Applications will be assessed during December 2026, and applicants will be told the outcome during December.
If your application is approved, you must complete your investment and submit your grant claim by:
11.59pm on 28 February 2027
How applications will be assessed
Funding will be awarded on a first come, first assessed basis.
The grant will remain available until the funding has been fully allocated. This means we recommend applying as early as possible.
