Following the sad passing in December 2025 of Tamworth Borough Council councillor and previous mayor, Councillor Marion Couchman, Leader of the council, Councillor Carol Dean, has awarded Marion’s unallocated annual councillor grant to a local community charity.

Tamworth Hygiene Bank has received a £750 grant in honour of Marion, who had supported the local charity for many years.

Councillor Marion Couchman was a well-known and much respected member of the community who served with distinction in a political career spanning nearly three decades, and her tireless dedication to the town and its people leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service and commitment.

Marion’s unwavering dedication to improving the lives of residents, and her leadership was an integral driving force behind numerous initiatives and committees that shaped Tamworth.

Councillor Carol Dean, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: "Marion was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about our community. Her compassion, commitment and dedication to getting things done and changing things for the better touched many lives.

“She is fondly remembered as a councillor who always put her community first and who worked tirelessly to ensure Tamworth remained a vibrant and thriving place to live, therefore gifting her unallocated councillor grant award to a charity so close to her heart, is both honouring Marion’s memory and giving funds to a very deserving charity that supports many of our residents.”

Marie Ballard from Tamworth Hygiene Bank, said: "Councillor Marion Couchman was our colleague and dear friend. She was one of the founder members of our small Hygiene Bank team and a great support to us all. She was essentially practical, resourceful, very thoughtful and kind. We miss her sound common sense and advice, and we are very grateful that her councillor grant allocation will continue to support our many families who use the Hygiene Bank.”
