We are committed to consulting local people on local issues, on the work that we do, and the priorities and aspirations for the borough. 

What is consultation?

Consultation is a process of dialogue leading to a decision. Consultation involves seeking opinions on options before decisions are reached, seeking to increase the involvement of local people, communities, businesses and the voluntary sector in important decisions that may impact them. The main aim of consultation is to listen to and learn from local people and communities.

Tamworth Local Plan 2043 consultation

Tamworth Borough Council has launched a formal six-week consultation on its draft pre-submission local plan, giving residents, businesses and other stakeholders the chance to have their say on the document that will guide how Tamworth grows and changes over the next two decades, before it is submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for independent examination.

The consultation opens today, Monday 24 August, and closes on Monday 5 October 2026. You can take part on the engagement platform.

This latest stage builds on several months of engagement with residents, businesses and community groups, who have helped shape the plan at every stage of its development, from early conversations about priorities for the borough through to detailed feedback on specific policies and proposals. The council would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to contribute their views so far.

Annual survey 2026

We’re inviting residents to share their views on spending priorities and life in the borough as part of its annual resident and budget survey.

The survey asks residents about a range of issues, including their overall satisfaction with Tamworth, the priorities that matter most to them, their views on council services and spending, and how much they trust the council.

There are also questions about the characteristics of local communities and quality of life, helping to build a wider picture of what matters to people living in Tamworth.

The survey forms part of the council's annual consultation to help inform its budget-setting and future priorities.

Take part online now until 25 October 2026. 

Tamworth Borough Council receives just nine pence from every pound of council tax paid by residents – around £191.11 per year for an average Band C property. The remaining goes to Staffordshire County Council, police and fire services.

This small slice of council tax, combined with business rates and government grants, funds a wide range of services including:

• Weekly bin collections and recycling 
• Maintaining parks, open spaces, and street cleaning 
• Tamworth Assembly Rooms, Tamworth Castle and local heritage
• Customer services, including benefit support and advice
• Supporting homeless people and housing advice 
• Tackling antisocial behaviour 
• Sports and leisure facilities
• Cemeteries
• Supporting local businesses
• Planning, food premises inspections and taxi licencing

Current Licensing Consultations

Citizens Panel: 

We are always looking for more residents who are interested in having their say on council services to join our citizens’ panel.

Our citizens’ panel is a group of local residents who we ask about local services. If you join, we'll contact you three or four times a year highlighting consultations and surveys. There is no obligation to take part, you can join whichever interest you the most.

You may also be invited to take part in discussion groups or workshops.

The results are then used to inform decisions about how we deliver our services. Complete our short application form to join the panel.
