The yuletide season kicks off in style at the end of November, with Tamworth’s annual Christmas lights switch-on and an afternoon of festive entertainment for the whole family.

Tamworth Borough Council is delighted to spread the Christmas spirit with residents and visitors, with some festive treats at the annual lights switch-on event, on Saturday 23 November.

The event takes place at the Holloway end of the Castle Grounds with the fun beginning at 12noon with food, drink and festive stalls.

Grab some festive gifts at Berts and Gerts Christmas market set up on Holloway road near the Castle Grounds.

Food stalls selling burgers, hotdogs, Indian delights, donuts, pancakes, hot and cold drinks, plus much more will be available.

A full timetable will be announced on our social media platforms, along with details of more exciting festive events taking place in Tamworth during December.

Lights switch-on attractions include:

  • Bert and Gerts festive market
  • Food and drink stalls
  • Tamworth Round Table's Santa sleigh

Live entertainment stage including:

  • The D-Day Juniors and Tamworth Voices Choir
  • Tamworth Pantomime Company
  • The Santa Show Elves
  • Rory and The Revellers (Youth Battle of the Bands runners-up)

Plus much more!

The lights will be switched on at 5pm by the Mayor of Tamworth and Santa's elves.

Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, leisure and engagement, said: “It’s incredible how fast another year has flown by. This is a very popular event in our calendar of free entertainment for residents and visitors, and we are delighted to be able to hold this event on a Saturday this year, meaning visitors can also enjoy a day shopping in the town at our local businesses and Saturday market stalls.

“Christmas in Tamworth is special because of the amazing local community we have. This year the event will be hosted again at the castle grounds to make it accessible for everyone attending while our town regeneration work is taking shape.”

Please note: There is a temporary road closure at Silver Street, Holloway, Market Street and Hollway carpark, between 6am and 10pm on the event day (Saturday).
