- Tamworth Borough Council to invest £400k to replace all front doors in council run low-rise blocks
- Work starting from 8 July
- Works additional to the standard programme of upgraded to kitchens, bathrooms and windows
From 8 July Tamworth Borough Council starts work to improve homes for tenants in all low-rise blocks, replacing front doors so they meet latest fire regulations.
Delivered in partnership with housing contractor Wates, this project will cost £404,000 and the first 96 doors across the low-rise blocks will start to be replaced from 8 July.
Over the last two years, there have been improvement and upgrades carried out to all tenant homes within six high-rise blocks. This year, low-rise blocks are the council’s main priority, along with a standard programme of kitchen, bathroom and window improvements.
Councillor Ben Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Homelessness and Planning, said: “This investment of over £400k from Tamworth Borough Council, is essential to make sure we improve and maintain our low-rise homes to a high standard.
“We have worked hard to improve the high-rise blocks over the last few years, so it is now time to put our attention towards other tenant homes.
“This new programme of works will run alongside the usual planned kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors improvements to tenant properties. Also, any communal doors in the low-rise blocks will be upgraded to current fire regulations.
“We want every resident to feel safe and secure in their homes, and this programme supports this.”
