Tamworth Borough Council has appointed Bescot Promotions Ltd as the new operator of Tamworth Market, following a competitive tender process.
Tamworth’s open-air street market, a tradition dating back to the earliest days of the town’s history, is the heart of the community, drawing locals and visitors alike with its offerings and atmosphere.
The appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the market, which has been a fixture of Tamworth life for over 1,000 years. Bescot Promotions is a family-owned and run business with over 40 years’ experience providing both indoor and outdoor market events across the West Midlands, including the renowned Bescot Sunday Market.
The new contract, which begins on Tuesday 31 March 2026, will see Bescot Promotions operate the Tuesday and Saturday markets in the town centre. Along with working in partnership with existing local traders visitors know and love, Bescot promotions will also work to increase trader numbers, improve the mix of offerings and develop specialist event markets that enhance the vibrancy of Tamworth town centre.
Tamworth Borough Council would like to thank LSD Markets for their hard work and support during their time operating Tamworth Market. LSD Markets made the decision not to tender for the new contract, and the council is grateful for their dedication to the market and the town.
Chief Executive Stephen Gabriel said: “We’re delighted to welcome Bescot Promotions to Tamworth. Their extensive experience and proven track record of running successful markets makes them the ideal partner to help our historic market continue to expand and grow.
“Tamworth Borough Council is wholly committed to Tamworth Market and the significant contribution it makes to the vibrancy of our town centre. Markets have been part of Tamworth’s identity since Anglo-Saxon times, and we’re excited to work with Bescot Promotions to ensure this tradition thrives for generations to come. While the way the market works behind the scenes is changing, shoppers can continue to enjoy the familiar faces and fantastic range of traders that make Tamworth Market such a well-loved part of our town centre."
“I would also like to thank LSD Markets for their professionalism and dedication during their time working with us. We wish them well for the future.”
Spencer Evans, director from Bescot Promotions said: "It’s a real privilege for us to have been appointed to operate Tamworth Market. As a family-run business with more than 40 years' experience in our field, we understand the important role markets play in bringing communities together.
“Tamworth's market has a remarkable history, and we are committed to protecting that heritage while working hard to help it strengthen and grow. We look forward to building strong relationships with traders and supporting a smooth transition."
The council will work alongside both LSD Markets and Bescot Promotions for a smooth transition for traders ahead of the changeover date.
