Tamworth Borough Council has just taken ownership of four new one-bedroomed flats and two new two-bedroomed flats for housing singles/couples and families.

The new homes form part of the refurbished former Twomlows site in Wilnecote and are phase one of a larger development scheme. The £2.5 million development from council HRA (Housing Revenue Account), led by developer Capstone, includes four one-bedroomed flats and two two-bedroomed flats, which will be advertised for council tenants this spring.

Bids can be placed at www.findingahometamworth.co.uk for applicants with an active housing application and bidding number.

All properties meet the latest energy efficiency standards with future parking being accessible from Wilnecote Lane.

With the five new homes also built at Caledonian, Glascote Heath in 2024, and an additional 29 properties on the former Wilnecote Care home; these new additions will bring the total of council housing properties to over 4,300.

Phase two for Twomlows site will start soon, which will see an additional low-rise block of nine flats added to the site.

Councillor Ben Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, homelessness and planning, said: “We’re delighted to announce that further homes are available as council housing. The flats bring a disused building back into active use in a modern and attractive way.

“The partnership with Capstone has been a real success, with local people being consulted throughout.

“These new homes are good quality and are essential to meet the needs of Tamworth people. Making sure there is affordable housing available, whether from the council or housebuilders is a key priority for Tamworth Borough Council.”

All available Tamworth Borough Council properties are advertised via the Finding a Home website.

Notes:

The Housing Revenue Account (HRA) is a sub-account within the council's finances, specifically designed for the management of council-owned housing stock.

It is funded primarily through rental income, supplemented by service charges and, in some cases, capital receipts or borrowing. The HRA maintains that tenants' rent payments are used exclusively for housing-related purposes.
