- Up to £500 available to help eligible council tenants facing financial hardship

Tamworth Borough Council is reminding council tenants that financial support is available through its Cost-of-Living Support - Hardship Fund, helping households facing financial hardship to stay secure in their homes.
The fund is designed to support tenants who are finding it difficult to cover the rising costs of living and need help with essential housing-related costs. Eligible households can apply for up to £500, with larger awards considered in exceptional circumstances.
The support is available to Tamworth Borough Council tenants and partners who live with them at the same address. Applicants do not need to receive universal credit or housing benefit to qualify.
The fund can help with a range of essential costs, including:
- Reducing or clearing rent arrears where these have built up because of financial pressures
- Repairing, replacing or fitting essential household items, such as a vital kitchen appliance
- Vehicle repair costs where a vehicle is essential for travelling to work or is used for self-employment, such as a builder's van
Councillor Ben Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, homelessness and planning, said: "We know that many households are still feeling the pressure of rising living costs. This fund provides practical support when people need it most, helping tenants stay in their homes and overcome unexpected financial difficulties.
"If you're worried about paying for life's essentials or facing unexpected costs, please don't struggle in silence. Our housing income team is here to help, and you may be eligible for support even if you don't receive benefits."
One payment can be made per household each financial year, although the council may consider additional support in exceptional circumstances. Awards may also be prioritised where there is an immediate risk to a tenancy, essential services or household wellbeing.
The council may make partial awards to help support as many households as possible. The fund cannot cover costs that have already been paid for, or are awaiting a decision, through another support scheme or the Crisis and Resilience fund for the same need.
