  • Make a day of it on 28 November, with Christmas lights switch-on celebrations taking place too

Visitors to Tamworth town centre will have even more reason to head into town on Saturday 28 November with an antiques, collectors and flea market coming to St Editha’s Square.

Tamworth Borough Council’s market provider, Bescot Promotions, is working in partnership with P&V Fairs to bring the market to Tamworth, offering visitors the chance to browse antiques, collectables and unusual finds.

P&V Fairs delivers regular markets at venues including Hereford Racecourse, Bantock House, Hartlebury Castle and Himley Hall. The partnership aims to bring something different to the town centre and provide another reason for people to visit and explore.

The market will coincide with Tamworth Borough Council’s annual Christmas lights switch-on celebrations at the Castle Grounds. The free event gets underway at 12 noon, with family entertainment, walkabout characters including the Grinch and the chance to visit Santa’s grotto. Live performances from local acts begin at 2pm, ahead of the Christmas lights switch-on at 6.30pm. More information can be found on the website: https://www.tamworth.gov.uk/christmas-lights

Ankerside Shopping Centre will also be hosting a Christmas market and toy fair from 9am to 6pm, giving visitors even more opportunities to browse, shop and pick up gifts ahead of Christmas.

Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, engagement, leisure and heritage for Tamworth Borough Council, said: “It's great to see another event coming to Tamworth town centre, particularly on a day when we're already looking forward to welcoming lots of people for the Christmas lights switch-on.

“The antiques, collectors and flea market will offer something a little different for visitors to enjoy, whether they're looking for a unique gift, a special find or simply fancy having a browse.

“Tamworth has a wonderful mix of independent shops, markets and businesses, each offering something different, and events like this are another great way to encourage people to come into town, explore what's on offer and support our local traders.

“With the Christmas market and toy fair at Ankerside and plenty of festive entertainment at the Castle Grounds, there will be lots of reasons to make a day of it in Tamworth.”

The antiques market and Christmas toy fair offer another opportunity to enjoy Tamworth town centre, alongside the festive celebrations. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come along, explore what's on offer and support local traders and businesses as the town gets ready for Christmas.
