
- Tamworth Borough Council awards community grants to four groups

Local community and voluntary groups have received £2,940 in community grants, thanks to the 2024/25 quarter four round of grants from Tamworth Borough Council.
Four groups have all been awarded grants between £150 - £1,000, from the Community Grants scheme that is available for community, not for profit organisations or for identified not for profit projects, to work collaboratively and flexibly to meet the needs of the residents of Tamworth.
The latest awards have been given to the following groups:
- She Kicks Academy CIC: £890 towards venue hire, coaching costs, training for volunteers and equipment. She Kicks Academy is a new football and multi-sports project aimed at increasing access to sports and physical activities for young girls aged 6-16 in the Tamworth community.
- The Royal Air Forces Association Tamworth: £900 towards replacement standard bearer equipment. The RAFA club is run by a dedicated team of volunteers. The project will see the replacement of the branch standard and the bearer’s equipment, used at formal military events and church services.
- Starr in the Community (Circus Starr): £1000 towards venue hire cost and a British Sign Language signer for Tamworth performances. Circus Starr are the only UK touring circus to bring accessible and inclusive circus themed performance to everybody.
- Staffordshire Care Farming Development CIC: £150 towards staffing costs, materials and ingredients for Grow It, Cook It, Eat It Project. The grant will also help fund WELLIES (Wellness, Education, Learning, Laughter, Inspiration, Environment, Skills).
Councillor Sarah Daniels, portfolio holder for co-operative council, community partnerships and ASB, said: “We are proud to support individuals and organisations in our local communities with grant funding to help our local groups provide valuable services to our communities.
“Over the past 12 months we have awarded between four and ten local groups or individuals with a fund allocation of up to £1,000 per application. These groups have ranged from existing and new organisations, with projects involving people of all ages to achieve common goals, combat isolation, or support for some of the most vulnerable people in our borough.
“We have been delighted to support projects over the years including grants to Tamworth Foodbank, Community CIC, New Urban Era, Tamworth Have a Heart, sports clubs and sports individuals, local churches, nature reserve groups, Tamworth Pantry, local scouts and brownie groups and many more!

The Community Grants scheme is for community, not for profit organisations or for identified not for profit projects to work collaboratively and flexibly to meet the needs of our communities.
Grants are awarded for projects/activities that meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Helps tackle the causes of inequality in our communities
- Helps develop and safeguard our environment and open spaces
- Increases opportunities to participate in arts, heritage, and sports activities
- Increases volunteering and civic pride
- Helps tackle causes and effects of poverty and financial hardship
- Considers talented sporting individuals, who by achievement in sports promote Tamworth as a place.
- Promotes and develops community cohesion
On 1 February 2024, Cabinet approved the management of Tamworth Borough Council’s Community Grant and Councillor Grant Scheme through The Community Foundation for Staffordshire.
Please note that there will be no 2025/26 community grant scheme.
The 2025/26 councillor grant scheme will remain in place.
